Club History

At the start of 1989, on the initiative of Mick Divilly and Mick Feeney, a group of enthusiasts came together with a view to set up a GAA club in Confey. Those who attended the first meeting on Jan 19, 1989 in 390 River Forest (Divilly's) were Tom Connolly, Jimmy Creighton (RIP), Mick Divilly, John Feerick, Mick Feeney, Tom Gavigan, Paddy Keegan, Larry Keenahan and Des Quinlan. This led to a public meeting in Scoil San Carlo on Jan 30 where the idea got unanimous support from the people of Confey and an application was made to Kildare County Board for ratification. Confey GAA club was officially ratified by Kildare County Board on Feb 27, 1989.

An adult football team was immediately set up and played its first competitive game in a challenge against Kilcock and this was soon followed by the first official league game against Cappagh. Adult hurling was also set up that year and claimed the Junior B Hurling Championship in its first year. Football claimed success in the early years with an under 15 team winning the Leinster Og Sport competition in Longford in 1992. Ladies Football and Camogie were also started with successes in the early years with the ladies going on to achieve success in Leinster at Junior and Intermediate level and the camogie teams at juvenile and adult level also annexing county titles.

Juvenile football structures were soon put in place and the club began to field teams from U10 upwards. Juvenile hurling was set up in 1992 and it was the U12 hurling team of 1993 which brought the first county title to Confey when they defeated Moorefield in the Division 3 final.

Off the field of play the club purchased its own pitches in the early 1990s and opened a clubhouse with dressing rooms, sports hall, bar and meeting rooms in 1997 after just eight years in existence.

On the field of play the club has been extremely successful in all aspects of Gaelic Games:
